Our Practice

Blacktown Dermatology has provided the highest quality dermatological care in the Western Sydney community for over 50 years. The practice was founded by Dr Ken Paver, who was a general practitioner in Merrylands before becoming a Dermatologist and setting up his Dermatology practice in Blacktown in 1966. He moved into the current building in 1973.

Dr Rob Paver came to work with his father Ken at Blacktown in 1985 after graduating in
Dermatology the previous year. Soon afterwards, Rob was invited to complete a specialist Mohs Surgery Fellowship in San Francisco, USA where he spent a year in training before returning to set up a specialty clinic in this ‘new’ technique at the ‘Skin Hospital’ in Westmead. Ken and Rob worked together in the practice at Blacktown until 1990, when Ken retired and Rob took over ownership. Rob subsequently renovated the building, installed an operating theatre and computers and enlarged the practice by inviting other consultant dermatologists to join him.

Both Ken and Rob have endeavoured to create a welcoming, family atmosphere for both staff and patients and Blacktown Dermatology continues to build on these long standing traditions of family, friendliness, efficiency and high quality care.

Rob graduated medicine from the University of NSW in 1978 and became a member of the Australasian College of Dermatologists in 1985. He trained in Mohs surgery in San Francisco in 1987 and established the Mohs surgery unit at The Skin Hospital in Westmead and the first Mohs Surgery Fellowship for dermatologists in Australia in 1991.

Rob is one of Australia's pre-eminent dermatologists and has spent over 30 years teaching and training medical students, general practitioners, dermatology registrars and other dermatologists in the surgical techniques used by dermatologists in all manner of skin problems and most importantly skin cancer.

Rob is the medical director at The Skin Hospital in Westmead and maintains a very keen interest in the success of the facility, which he continues to use as a day surgery for his insured patients.

Rob is now closer to the end than the beginning of his career but retains an enthusiasm for helping patients with skin problems and young doctors who want to learn.
